The Monsters Are A Mess

I have been a Bears fan my entire life. I'm sorry. There is nothing I can do about it. I was born with this defective gene. You learn to live with the disappointment, and despair, early on in life, and you almost don't notice that it is killing you, one blood cell at a time, like a slow drip from the bathroom faucet.

There are a few fleeting moments of pleasure, 1963, Gale Sayers and Dick Butkus,1985, Walter Payton and Mike Singletary. But soon enough everything returns to normal and that dark hole in your heart reopens and the comfort of disgust fills it up again.

This, seemingly sweet, 97 year old lady has been in charge of the storied franchise for the past 37 years. She has ceded much of the everyday running of the team to these two.

Ted Phillips is the team President on the left, and her son George McCaskey is the Chairman of the Board on the right. They know as much about football, and running a team, as the Queen of England, and I mean her no disrespect.

Virginia McCaskey has tried to keep the team as much like her dad, George Halas, wanted it since she took over after his death in 1983. Unfortunately the game has changed drastically and she has not allowed the team to change too. The Bears are operated today like it is still 1962. Hello 21st century.

Tweedle dee and Tweedle dum, shown above trying to figure out why they hired another person who doesn't know what he is doing, keep bringing in unqualified people for key roles. Why? Because the people they bring in will work for less money than the top shelf people they need to bring in to fix this mess.

The Chicago Bears are the sole source of income for the McCaskey family. Therefore they need to save every dime they can, wherever they can save it. In 1967 Mike Ditka famously said that George Halas throws around nickles like manhole covers. This pointed statement regarding Halas sharing money got Ditka shipped to the Eagles.

The Bears being cheap is not news, especially to anyone around football. The Bears inability to judge leadership is also well known around football. The last two times they hired a GM they used an outside search company to find the right guy. That may work fine for General Motors, but it doesn't work in sports.

Speaking of not working in sports, these three will not be smiling shortly. They are the leading faces to not be around Halas Hall in the very near future. Deservedly so, although GM Ryan Pace, on the left, is more to blame for this current slop than head coach Matt Nagy, center, but he is gaining on Pace. Mitch Trubisky, on the right, shouldn't really even be in the NFL.

They are the 2020 version of the Three Stooges, but it isn't funny. The fans of this original franchise deserve better than what we have had to put up with for the past 60 years or so.

Virginia, the time has come for you to either completely clean house, and bring in a team of people that understand football, and how to run things in the 21st century, or sell the team to someone who will.

Continuing the tradition of letting Ted Phillips and your son pick the new GM and head coach needs to stop right now. Bring in a president of football and give him the sole authority to run this team. Don't let anyone in the family look over his shoulder, or get the final say. They must have the ability to bring in the right people and fix this mess, finally.

It would be the best Christmas present you could ever give the long suffering fans, and the city. Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.
