It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

I was talking with an old friend earlier this week, of course all my friends are old when you're 65, and he was reminding me about how the next two months are just about the best two months of the year if you are a sports fan.

Baseball is spinning out of the turn and heading into the regular season home stretch and then the playoffs start. The Cubs are more likely than not going to make the playoffs and depending on whether or not they decide to hit consistently and pitch in relief better, how far they go will be determined.

Football, both college and pro, are about to start the regular season and there is some real optimism for both the local Chicago teams, Northwestern and the Bears. Northwestern is the defending Western conference Big Ten champs and the Bears are the defending Central division champs. Of course this means absolutely nothing for 2019 but it just sounds good to say it.

Shortly, the Solheim Cup will start for ladies golf fans, and the Presidents Cup follows later this year for the men. Must see TV if you love golf and interesting for casual fans as well. Right around the corner, training camp will be starting for the NHL and our Blackhawks, along with the NBA and the Bulls. Both of these teams have had busy off seasons and revamped rosters so it will be interesting to see what that all brings.

A lot going on for the next 60 days so fire up that DVR, make sure the fridge is freshly stocked with cold beer, and since we are all getting older, put away the cheetos and grab some fresh almonds instead.

Here are my pre-season predictions for football and the Solheim Cup.
