Linda and I just got back from seeing the new movie Wicked and it was outstanding. I would highly recommend it to everyone and I can't wait for part two next year. The music was incredible. The dancing superb. The orchestral arrangements brought the movie to life.
Ariana Grande-Butera as Galinda/Glinda has a range musically I had no idea she had. She played the part perfectly and her dancing skills, ridiculous. Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba is the star of the movie. She brings you to tears multiple times as she played the part with more empathy than I remember the stage actress playing her. The two together are magical. I was seriously blown away.
Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible are perfect in their parts. I expect them to have bigger roles in part two. Jeff Goldblum plays his characters in every movie with just a simple little twist that catches you off guard at first. He is really underrated as an actor. Yeoh has never been bad in anything she's ever done and she is terrific in this role too.
As someone who was underwhelmed with the play, I was not expecting to be so engrossed in this movie but I was completely captivated. It is long, over two and a half hours, so plan your bathroom needs accordingly. Make plans to go see this movie, it is even better than the reviews say it is. I just had to let everyone know.
