Something New

Since resuming my love/hate relationship with social media it has become pretty clear to me that I needed to find a new way to express my frustration, or love, for events. Instagram is cute if I want to find pictures of people or things that amuse me but I only look at it three times a week, maybe.

Facebook was becoming my most used outlet to make a point or incite a riot and I still enjoy connecting with friends there. It is the easiest way to load information and pictures so I will continue to use it going forward.

"X", formerly known as Twitter, put me in time out every time I even mentioned in passing that the thirty four times convicted felon should die slowly and painfully. It has become unusable if you want to say anything negative about the orange blob in the White House and if you can't wish for him to die, then what is the point of social media.

I heard in passing about an outlet called Bluesky but I wasn't clear on what it was so I looked it up and discovered that it is what Twitter started out to be before it was ruined by everyone that got their hands on its ownership.

There are several differences from "X" and I won't bore you with all the details, you can look it up like I did if you are interested enough. There are a couple of things that I do want to point out that are different. First, there are no algorithm's there. You don't get posts based on popularity or a preset idea of what you like. You get what comes over it and they occasionally will give you some recommended people to follow that fit your interests.

Second, there are no ads, so far. How nice it is to scan social media without being bombarded with ads every other post. Third, if you block someone they cannot use your post even if they want to quote it. You can also remove yourself from any mentions on other posts if you choose to do so.

I will be using this as my primary way to reach out to the world to let everyone know that I am angry, or happy, about a particular event or story. You can download it for your phone or tablet from your specific store depending on what format you use. If you want to use it from your desktop, like I do, you need to type Bluesky into the search engine and bring it up that way. You can save it as a favorite and bring it up easily after that each time.

I have also been using WhatsApp with one of my friends as our way of connecting via text and have noticed that more of the people that I text with are using this too so I may move from Messenger to this full time in the future. We'll see how that goes.

There has been a lot of protests so far against the felons efforts to rip the Constitution from out from under us. Millions of people have joined with one of the groups above, or any number of local groups, to march and let their representatives know that they are not happy with what is going on and they want them to do something to stop him and his band of thugs.

In theory I agree with this effort. There is no question when we did the same thing in the 1960's and 1970's it ended the war in Viet Nam, helped to integrate schools, establish voting rights, and any number of other issues we rallied around back then. Protesting does work to be sure.

However, it also needs the support of some courageous people in Washington, from the party in the majority, to work with this effort by passing laws and restraining would be dictators. So far nobody in the GOP has shown they have the balls to stand up to this asswipe and his thugs. One of the frequent anti felon voices, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R) AK, has come out and admitted that even she is afraid of retribution from the band of criminals in the White House.

At first they feared getting primaried if they spoke up. Now they fear being put in jail or worse for doing the same. This is just not normal people. Our elected representatives should not have to work in fear of a group of black shirts knocking down their doors and tossing them in a prison in El Salvador because they dared to speak out against the President.

You would think that they would all be working together to pass laws to restrict him and his aggressive actions instead of cowering in the corner like a beaten dog. Not yet anyway.

My point is that I was going to go to a rally to let our local GOP rep know that he needs to stop the destruction of Social Security and Medicare Monday at his local office here in town. However I am going to pass because I think I can be more effective sending him hate emails and leaving threatening voice mails like I have been doing for the past ten weeks.

Speeches and marches are great but we need those in DC to actually start doing something to stop these thugs.
