There Needs To Be A Plan

I was texting with a friend today and we were discussing the mess in Washington, specifically the hold the 34 times convicted felon still has on the GOP, and what it means going forward. He, like many people I read on social media, are hoping that the loyal base becomes disillusioned with Der Leader and turns against him in sixteen months opening the door for the Democrats to take back control of both houses.
Not me.
I have a few reasons for this pessimism. First, his base is still very loyal to him and will continue to vote for the things he asks them to vote for. They are thrilled with what he is doing so far as it is exactly what they wanted. Rounding people of color up and shipping them out was the core reason they voted for him and he is delivering. Maybe not at the breakneck speed they hoped but enough to keep them sated.
Secondly, he is invading blue/liberal cities and states in an illegal show of force that makes his base giddy. There is nothing they love more than seeing the libs get their comeuppance and so far the courts are letting him get away with stomping on the Constitution. Again that makes them very happy.

Third, the 2026 elections are not about the felon specifically and when he isn't on the ballot turnout by the base is weak. The problem is that the Democrats are not functioning like they think they need to do anything to take back the Congress. This is a mistake by them. There is still a big cavern between the far left and the centrists of the party in terms of what they want the party to do and be going forward.
The current old men running the party think the felon will do enough bad shit that they will take back both houses in a blue wave without having to do anything until 2028 in the Presidential elections. Guess what? They thought the same thing in 2024 and look what happened.
Fourth, the Democrats have no plan of how they are going to attract voters back to win these races. There should already be teams working on various platforms and plans to take back veto proof control of both houses and yet they are doing nothing. Just spend three minutes on social media and you will see the deep frustration still with the party leaders from the far left, the young people, the men, and the socialists in the party who want changes and the leadership to recognize their frustration. So far crickets from the leaders.
Waiting for the 2028 elections will be too late to do anything and the GOP will survive when they are the most vulnerable since the 1930's. The reason that the felon won again is because the other voters stayed away from voting in record numbers because of their unhappiness with the message, or lack of, from the Democrats.
Just look who is drawing the crowds right now. AOC, Bernie, and others on far left are getting people out to hear their message and it is starting to resonate with this group. That is great. Anything that gets these fence straddlers out to vote is a good thing but unless the party seizes on their ideas and makes them part of an overall plan they will not win enough seats to make any changes in 2026 and it will be a huge opportunity missed.
Finally, there is no assurances that the felon will even allow elections to be held going forward. I laugh when I say this on social media and people clap back that the Constitution doesn't allow him to do that and I point out that he doesn't seem to be bound by that pesky piece of paper anymore and is practicing to do it by sending troops into a city for no reason just as an exercise.
I have said since his last horrible reign that what he really wants is a civil war to break out so he can declare martial law and suspend laws while declaring himself dictator for life. I am seeing nothing to make me change my mind and in fact I am even more sure that this is the ultimate goal of his. But all that aside, unless the Democratic party starts to put together a plan, like the GOP had with Project 2025, they will be doomed in 2026 and 2028 and the blame will be on the current leadership.
Or what is passing for leadership by these idiots.
